News from the Illinois Association of Museums Claudia
Dant, president of IAM, encouraged attendance at the upcoming annual conference taking place October 27 - 29 in Danville. Samples of IAM award nominations are available in IAM's lending library.

Marketing Committee Report
Dona Bachman, marketing chair, reported that plans are underway for the October 16 marketing workshop, directory information formas are being prepared, and Pam Madden is writing a column for The southern Illinois called "Museums in Your Own Backyard" featuring SIAM member mueums and their events.

Technical Assistance Committee Report
Lori Huffman reported that a fundraising round table discussion is being planned for the September meeting. Send suggestions for future discussion topics to Lori at curator@siu.edu or call 618-453-5388.

Development Committee Report Jo Nast is interested in leading a discussion on grant writing and a meeting may be scheduled on a Thursday for this discussion.

Developing a Brochure Steps for developing a SIAM brochure were discussed.

Website Development
Those museums that have hosted SIAM meetings should send in photographs of their museums for inclusion on the website. Physical photographs should be mailed to: Carla Smith, University Museum, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL 62901-4508
Digital photographs 72 dpi and 6" wide OR 180 dpi and 4" wide should be sent in .jpg or .jpeg format to carlajs@siu.edu.
Dates of exhibits and events should also be sent to Carla for inclusion on the SIAM calendar of events.

Tours begin at 4:00 and meetings start at 5:00 unless otherwise noted.
Monday, September 27: The Science Center and African American Museum, Carbondale.
Monday, October 25: (3:30 tour of archive, 5:00 meeting at museum) The University Museum, Carbondale

Monday, November 22: The Beatles Mini Museum (Benton) Tour at 4:00 and meet at 5:00.

What is next for SIAM?
The group agreed that formalizing the organization is the next step. An administrative committee will discuss 501(c)(3) status, mission, and by-laws. Committee members are Adrienne Barkley Giffin (chair), Cindy Birk Conley, Lori Huffman, and corene McDaniel.
