Oral History

Each section of the wall is 246.8 feet long. The walls are supported along their entire length by 140 concrete pilings driven, approximately 35 feet, into bedrock. The memorial pays tribute all the 80,000 Vietnam veterans who served our country in our longest war. The Vietnam Womens' Memorial was dedicated in 1993, as part of the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial. Anyone who dies as a result of this war will have their name added to the list. A total of 57,939 names were originally inscribed on the wall.
