Civil War Project Information

 

Student Teacher Lesson Plan:

Materials: Charley Skedaddle by Patricia Beatty

While reading the novel, create a bulletin board sized map of the United States during the Civil War Period. Color code it for Union, Conderate, border states, and U.S. Territories. You can also follow Charley as he goes on his adventure in the novel.

Adobe Photoshop Lesson Plan:

In a lab setting show students how to prepare photos for an internet site. Follow these 6 steps:

 

  • Open a picture
  • Crop the picture
  • Adjust lighting if needed
  • Sharpen picture
  • Image size should be change to load faster. Change the bigger dimesion of the picture to 3".
  • Save the file in an image folder

    Have each student do these 6 steps to their own Civil War picture and have them save it to put in their own report.

Assessment

We pre & post assessed the students on Civil War content and technology skills. Content was tested with higher level thinking questions, while technology was tested with a self-checklist.

Results:

The Civil War content assessment had 33 possible points. The pretest average was 7.9 points. The post test average was 22.7 points. This showed an increase of 14.7 points.

The technology checklist assessment had a yes/no response to 24 items. The preassessment average was 4.6 yes responses. The post assessment average was 14.3 yes responses. This showed an increase of 9.78 yes responses.
