Harriet Tubman

 

 

Harriet Tubman, born a slave. At age thirteen she got hit over the head with a 2-pound weight. She took her mothers' name Harriet her real name was Araminta Ross. Harriet couldn't read or write. Harriet's husband's name was John Tubman.

Harriet had no children or military training. Harriet lived with her husband for 4 years. Then she ran away from slavery. Harriet moved to a home in Philadelphia were she worked as a dishwasher, a waitress, and a cook.

Harriet saved as much money as she could. Then she traveled south to free slaves. Harriet said, "I never ran my train off the track. I never lost a passenger". She feed her the people she freed roots, berries, and plants along the way of the under ground railroad. If someone got too scared and wanted to turn back she would threaten to shoot them with her revolver.

In 1913 she died at the age of 93. Harriet freed 300 slaves in ten years and in 19 trips.
