Beside the cruelty and death that the Holocaoust contained there were those that tried to help.

Oskar Schindler was a German businessman who profited off the war by using Jewish slave labor.

Schindler became devoted to his 1,000 Jewish employees.

He spent his fortune he had made off slave labor to keep his workers alive. He even rescued some from

certain death at Aschwitz.

Raoul Wallenberg, from Sweden, helped many Jews escape from Hungary to Sweden.

One result of WWII was the creation of Israel in 1948. Israel became the honeland for Jews.

One important question arise after all this death and destruction. Could the Holocaust be avoided?

The responsibility for the Holocaust clearly falls on Hitler. No outsider could have persuaded him to

change course. However, the outside world could have done more.

European democracies could have stoped Hitler if they had not tried appeasement, givig in to his demands.

Many nations would not change their immigration quotas to allow Jews into countries. The tragedy of the

Jews could have been reduced before and after the war. Prejudice is a disease that not only affects the

mind, but the heart, eyes, and ears as well.
