Children's Programs

Completely Free Programs for Families

The Museum’s completely free programs focus on providing a direction for creativity, often using Museum exhibits as a starting point. The programs are for participants ages 7-14.  Pre-registration is required. To register, just call the Museum, at (618) 453-5388.

Note: Programs without adequate registration will be cancelled two days prior to the program and registrants will be notified.

Fall 2009 Saturday Programs begin at 1:30 p.m. Programs end at 3:30 pm

Partnership group programs already have groups scheduled to participate. Additional registration for these programs is limited to 7.

Look, Ma - No Camera!

Partnership Group: Carbondale Girl Scouts
This workshop introduces participants to the possibilities of camerless photography. Images will be created by placing objects on top of light-sensitive paper.

October 17
Me Two!

Partnership Group: Carbondale Girl Scouts
Each participant will take photo portrait of themselves, combine the portrait with a xerox portrait of historical figure, comic book hero, fictional character, etc., and write about the new person that is created as a result. If time allows, students will create combined portraits for group portraits well.

Abstract Express Yourself - Photocollage

Partnership Group: Carbondale Girl Scouts
Participants will photograph objects for texture, line, and shape. We'll use these photos (xeroxed) to create abstract expressionist photocollages.

December 12
Museum Games

An afternoon of exciting games using the Museum's exhibits. Students from SIUC Museum Studies will be helping out with this program.
